Day 2
copied from written journal
Ok where was I? I'm awake now... Lost my train of thought. There's roosters going off everywhere! I'm hungry and a little sore, and there was one mosquito buzzing last night. This is cool!
---
Too much to write, so I'll go point form...
- early up for the sunrise; s-weet views. Walked around finding higher grouns to see. The sun comes up just over the mountain landscape and it's amazing <doodle> the smog layers the mountains
- had breakfast, watched the dargen as the sun rose. It's a beautiful yard. The girls practiced their song while everyone else socialized. Me, Ryan, Carl, Dan and a couple others climbed the roof to see what we could see, planning for the next sunrise.
- headed to the store to grab some munchage, took some pictures by the bus and Dallas did a devo
- about to head out and a neighbor with what we thought was a hotel, pulled Mike aside and invited him in, and we all followed. This house was a resort! Artwork inside, balconies, porches, statues & sculptures, trees everywhere. Large pool, a real tree-house (house quality with a tree growing out of it), satellite dish, jacuzi, tennis + requestball courts and a bridge from the treehouse to the sunbathing patio. This place was huge. God blessed us then because the owner offered us his pool for use. 'Mi casa es su casa.' Who needs a hotel (we were originally supposed to stay in a hotel the first couple of days)? He and his family aren't Christian so we'll be praying for his salvation - but we're going to respect his charity and not discomfort him or impose Christianity on him. Hopefully our attitudes will be witness enough (side note - the weather got uglier, so we didn't have a chance today to swim)
- headed to the market first... it's the Mexican equivalent of our Farmer's Market. (I was continuously shocked at the wide mix of income levels of people on the street, from dying beggars to business people and tourists. And how openly everyone mixes, and beggars are totally ignored. What do we go about that? We could have the perfect street ministry! I've got to do that. Even just 'Dios te ama' could impact their life.
- did have fun at market though. Saw a number of tourists. We split up and tried not to get lost. Theresa was our 'guide' and she was learning more english with us too. But she helped us price and buy. Most of the wares were arts and crafts, and it's inspiring how open they are having Christo on so many things. You can definately see the majority Roman Catholic belief. And the prices are so cheap! Many places had similar if not the same stuff. Plus some brand names, yet prices still varied. But for little trinkets costing from 1 peso (about 15 cents) to blankets, clothes and big art at 100-300+ pesos, the value is amazing. And so many live off this! many people bought blankets (full size between 100-150p about $15-20). Even clothes came to $10-15. I picked up a few other things; not much, but there was a very sweet clock
(fell asleep)
